Part 2: Where two fight, the third wins

When the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was announced on the 27th of November, many were hoping for a peaceful period in the war-embroiled Middle East. It has quickly turned out that these were dire hopes - only hours later HTS, one of the resistance forces in Syria, has begun an offensive. In just over a week, the rebel group has managed to topple the Assad regime, with the main culprit escaping to Moscow last week.

After several bloody years of the Syrian civil war, all pointed to the Assad regime retaining power. Nations were slowly trying to reestablish diplomatic relations with the regime, some in hopes of deporting millions of the Syrian refugees, that flooded Europe during the most brutal part of the civil war.

With focus on Israel, Gaza and Hezbollah, little attention was paid to the Syrian rubbles. However, there was one actor that saw the opportunity and seized it as soon as it was possible.

Today in the second part of the global reshuffle I will tackle the Middle East. Not only will Trump presidency change the operational strategy in the region, but also the regional power balance has shifted. Some say that the region is at the crossroads - but is it?
